There is hardly a PBX system for your house to build ... However, this program is probably the telecommunications system leads to what you are doing.
http://www.asterisk.org/
This software allows you to and you read it in the hardware.
Not sure what you are trying to build, but the possibility could create your own VoIP solution to work better?
Just something to think about, maybe.
Try Edit: To answer questions --
1) Asterix is free, the equipment costs (not sure how much, but I'm sorry)
2) http://www.trixbox.org/ - a prefabricated box Asterix
3) You, the software and hardware (computers, software that controls also have the mobile branch exchange, etc. run)
4) Compatible with OS X? Sorta like Asterix is based on Linux, if you can (or use the VMware Fusion software to build a new call to a virtual machine to run Linux software - Awesome stuff)
5) For a number of "country" would respond to your phone company and say you had as a telephone line (landline is just another way of saying that the phone line - as a wireless VoIP phone or over).
